Carol D. Reen

Carol D. (Skomro) Reen, 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, in her home of forty years. Carol passed surrounded by the birds, cats, and flowers that she cherished dearly; her loving and devoted husband David by her side. Born November 13, 1945, she was the daughter of Mary (Dachowski) Bellucci and the late Raymond Skomro. Carol was a graduate of Macduffie School. She continued her education, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University. Carol was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr and a past president of the Women’s Valley Dental Society. Carol was an avid gardener and was a member of the Longmeadow Garden Club. Carol took pride and joy in the design of her home’s gardens. She spent countless hours planting many different flowers which blended beautifully, creating a tranquil landscape. Carol adored all animals. One would say that the cats adopted her. Over the years, she adopted four stray cats. She enjoyed the daily feeding and observation of the local deer, fox, birds, squirrels, and the resident ducks who visited her gardens and lily pond. Carol would start her day feeding the multitude of cardinals and blue jays that frolicked in her cherry trees. These moments truly gave her joy throughout her day. Carol enjoyed her summer vacations at the Surfcomber on Cape Cod for over sixty years. She enjoyed the ocean, reading, shopping and memories with her family. Carol loved music and the arts. She was an accomplished pianist and spent many hours playing on her grand piano. She enjoyed watching her granddaughters follow in her traits; Caitlyn with her music and Ashleigh with her true shopping ability. Carol is survived by her beloved husband of fifty years, David B. Reen, DMD; loving son, David C. Reen and wife Donna, of South Dennis; loving mother, Mary Bellucci, of West Palm Beach, FL; cherished granddaughters, Ashleigh Reen and Caitlyn Reen; sister, Connie Matusczak and husband Dr. Charles; and numerous cousins. Funeral services for Carol will be held Tuesday at 9AM from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St, Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Stanislaus Basilica. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association, CT and West MA Office, 2080 Silas Deane Highway, 2nd Floor, Rocky Hill, CT 06067; or Dakin Humane Society, 171 Union St, Springfield, MA 01105.
