Dorcas J. Roy

Dorcas J. (Knowlton) Roy, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, with loving family at her side. Born February 1, 1941, one of thirteen children of the late Charles J. and Lillian (Darrrah) Knowlton, she was proud to be a lifelong resident of Springfield. Dorcas devoted herself to caring for her husband, children, and their home. When their children were teenagers, she went to work for Stop & Shop, retiring after many years of service. In her spare time, Dorcas enjoyed gardening, homekeeping, cooking and baking. Famous to many was her coconut cake and her delicious pies with homemade crust. She loved her neighbors, past and present, especially the children. She began fifty years ago handing out cookies and pops to Patrick and ended by passing treats to Joey and Mia, with many in between. She adored them all! Dorcas enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with gathering with her sisters for outings and special occasions, especially where there was food involved. She frequently spoke of the memorable cruise she and her husband Alfred took together. Dorcas was predeceased in 2015 by her beloved husband of fifty-six years, Alfred Roy; and is survived by her loving children, Jacqueline M. D’Agostino and husband Phillip of Ware, Denise A. Roy-Geagan of Agawam, Mark S. Roy and husband David Harding of West Palm Beach, FL, and Steven P. Roy of Springfield; cherished grandchildren, Erin Saunders, Daniel Roy, Matthew D’Agostino and Adam D’Agostino; and treasured great-grandsons, Collin and Charlie. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Knowlton and wife Ann of Agawam; sisters, Barbara Bohn and Linda Greaney, both of Westfield, Patricia Desrosiers and husband Ray, and Sandra Boutin, both of Chicopee; sisters-in-law, Pat, Lillian and Patsy Knowlton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, especially her devoted niece Kathy. She was predeceased by her sister, Janet Kehoe, and brothers, Charles, Jr., Donald, Harold, Robert, Kenneth, and William Knowlton. Her family would like to thank Baystate Hospice, especially Diane, for the excellent care that she provided for their mother. Funeral services will be held Tuesday from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by burial in MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours are Tuesday from 12N-2PM, with a service at 1:45PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Rescue Mission, 10 Mill St., Springfield, MA 01108 or the Salvation Army, 170 Pearl St., Springfield, MA 01101.
