James B. Sullivan

James B. Sullivan, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 25, 2026, at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Holyoke on January 2, 1934, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Mary (Varley) Sullivan and a lifelong resident of the Chicopee area. A graduate of Chicopee Trade School, James was a devoted parishioner of St. Anne’s Church. An accomplished bricklayer and mason, he spent many years working for local companies, including Sullivan & Narey Construction Company, before establishing and operating his own successful masonry business. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and the many projects he completed throughout the region. James was known for his strong work ethic, quiet generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family. He enjoyed spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, and taking pride in a job well done. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, archery, and pheasant hunting with his beloved dogs. Above all, he found his greatest happiness in the company of his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. James was predeceased by his beloved wife of seventy years, Jean J. (Bazan) Sullivan, who passed away on April 22, 2026. He leaves his loving children: daughter Kim A. Murphy and her husband, David, of South Hadley; and sons Kevin J. Sullivan of Chicopee, and Keith M. Sullivan and his wife, Christine, of Granby. James was a proud and loving grandfather to nine grandchildren: Ryan Sullivan and his wife, Hilary; Stefanie Munsell and her husband, Adam; Shannon Chagnon and her husband, Kyle; Liam Murphy; Erin Murphy; Kera Murphy; Brett Sullivan; Tyler Sullivan; and Nolan Sullivan. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren: Jake, Will, Lily, Brandon, Olivia, Jack, Luke, and Emma. In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Kulig and Shirley Piquette. Funeral services for James will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front Street, Chicopee, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and culminating in a funeral home prayer service at 11:30 a.m. Committal services and burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Chicopee, will immediately follow. Memorial contributions in James’s memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
