Joseph W. Jendrysik

Joseph Walter Jendrysik, passed away at the age of 91, on March 28, 2023, at Renaissance Manor in Holyoke. A lifelong resident of Chicopee he was born on July 30, 1931, to the late Joseph and Anna (Kasek) Jendrysik. He attended St. Stanislaus Grade School and was a graduate of Chicopee High School. He began working at H.L. Handy Company and then was inducted into the United States Army serving proudly in the 101st Airborne Division in the 60th Transport Company serving from October 1952- September 1954 in Korea. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. After two and a half years he returned home to his fiancé Gladys Gurski, they married on November 27, 1954. They built a wonderful life and family together sharing over 68 years of marriage. Joe resumed his work at H.L. Handy, he then went on to work for Westover Air Force Base working in home construction, and later started working at New England Container as a forklift operator and after 30 years worked his way up to Plant Superintendent. They were bought out several times first by St. Joe Paper then finally Weyerhaeuser Company. His final employment was working for Baystate Elevator as a panel finisher for three years. In his retirement he worked part time, delivering flowers for Kozikowski Funeral Home. Joe loved trout fishing in the middle branch of the Westfield River along with the Green and Quaboag Rivers. He enjoyed anything outdoors and in nature, including golf, hunting, mushroom picking and gardening. He was an avid sports fan, faithful to the Red Sox, Patriots and Giants. Joe and his family loved vacationing in Londonderry, Vermont, Misquamicut and Cape Cod. The most important part of Joe and Gladys’s life was that they were loving parents of six children, and proud to be involved in raising and caring for their ten grandchildren. They enjoyed life to its fullest, and were always grateful for times and memories that they shared together and with family. Holidays and birthdays were always special family times, with many wonderful home cooked meals, laughs and enjoying a drink with family and friends. He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Gladys M. Jendrysik, his daughter Karen Dwyer and her partner Mike Lazzara of Chicopee, his sons: Mark and Diane Jendrysik of Chicopee, Jeff Jendrysik of Chicopee, Tom and Amy Jendrysik of Agawam, Joe Jendrysik of Windsor Locks and Chuck and Julie Jendrysik of Southampton as well as his son in law Robert Dwyer of Chicopee. He leaves his cherished grandchildren: Michael Dwyer of Providence, RI, Kevin and Sarah Anne Dwyer of Chicopee, Alex and Brittnie Jendrysik of Ludlow, Kellie and Peter Soillis of Chicopee, Michelle and Chris Dearing of Chicopee, Zachary Jendrysik and Caroline Wysocki of Glastonbury, CT., Jolene and Joey Jendrysik of Agawam, Nathan and Emily Jendrysik of Southampton. His four great granddaughters: Vivia, Eleanor, Sage, and Iris. Also, many extended family members including his niece, Darlene Kotowski, nephew, Michael Kotowski, and many cousins. Joe was predeceased by his sister, Jane Kotowski. He will be remembered by close family friends J.F. Pasternak, Dawn and Mia. Calling hours will be Sunday, April 2nd from 3-6pm at the Kozikowski Funeral Home 565 Front St. Chicopee, MA. Funeral services for Joe will be held Monday morning, April 3rd, at 9am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Stanislaus Basilica.
