Ruth E. Sullivan

Ruth E. (Heggie) Sullivan, 96, loving wife, sister and aunt, was called home to God on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Born in Ludlow on April 26, 1928, she was one of five children of the late Esther C. (Grant) Heggie and James Heggie, Sr. Educated in Massachusetts, she worked in a family owned restaurant, called the Piggy Wiggy, in Westfield from 1946-56. For 20 years, Ruth worked at Chapman Valve as a radiological x-ray tech and later she worked for Crane Corp. She was an avid gardener and loved flowers. Along with her sister Esther, she enjoyed working annually at the St. Hyacinth Garden Party for her nephew, Father James McCurry, O.F.M. Conv. She was a former member of Holy Name Church in Springfield, where she married Walter J. Sullivan on June 25, 1957. After Walter’s passing in 1993, she moved to Trexlertown, PA, living there with her sister Esther until her passing. She then moved in with her niece Judith Burke-Lund. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her three brothers, James Heggie, Jr., William G. Heggie, David A. Heggie, and her sister Esther Clara (Heggie) Burke. Ruth is survived by her niece, Judith Burke-Lund, RN, of Trexlertown, PA; grandnephews, Christopher M. Lund and James A. Lund; nieces and nephews, Sally (Heggie) Copeland of ME and her children Alexis and Nicholas; Grant W. Heggie and wife Patti of VA and his children Bill, Jennifer, and Amy; Michelle S. (Heggie) Stoyak of Westfield and her children Joseph and James; James Heggie III and wife Helen of NH and his children Paige and Brenna; Michael Heggie of MD and his daughter Jennifer; Father James McCurry, O.F.M. Conv. of Holyoke; Susan (McCurry) Michaud and husband Joseph of Ayer and her son James; and several grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins in Ireland, Scotland and England. Funeral services for Ruth will be held Wednesday, June 5th, from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Stanislaus Basilica at 10:30AM. Committal service and burial will follow in Island Pond Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday morning from 9:00-10:15AM.
