Stanley F. Lyko

Stanley F. Lyko, 102, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at JGS Lifecare, with loving family at his side. Born December 12, 1919, son of the late Jan and Stefania (Ziemniak) Lyko, he was a lifelong Chicopee resident. A graduate of Chicopee High School, Stanley was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Basilica. He was a WWII US Army veteran, and served his country as an expert M-1 Rifleman, receiving many awards. He received training in a machine shop and was also a canteen steward for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the Depression. Stanley started working in the 1940’s at the Springfield Armory, where he worked as a gauge maker and inspector for over thirty years. Stanley also worked for gun designer John Guerin, who invented the M-1 Garand rifle. An incredible athlete, Stanley played softball, basketball, and golf. He was also an expert candlepin bowler. His bowling team, the “Stanley's Steamers” frequently came in first place. Additionally, he was also a great dancer, with square dancing and polka dancing among his favorites. At Leavitt Family Jewish Home, Stanley was a giver, not a taker. Perhaps his good nature and generous spirit are the real reasons for his longevity. Stanley was predeceased in 1987 by his beloved wife of over forty years, Jane M. (Guzik) Lyko, and also predeceased by his brother, Frank Lyko, and sister, Mary Winiarski. He is survived by his loving, dedicated daughters, Deanna F. Burke and husband Gregory “Rex”, of Shaftbury, VT, and Darlene S. Lyko and partner Paul Hughes, of Chicopee; cherished grandchildren, Tawnya Trotta and husband Nicholas of NJ, and Bryan Burke and wife Sara of Westford; treasured great-grandchildren, Alexander, Elyse, Samantha and Cora; and caring nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Stanley will be held Wednesday, November 2nd, from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM in St. Stanislaus Basilica. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 8:30-10:15AM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus School, 534 Front St., Chicopee, MA 01013.
