Catherine T. (Zajchowski) Sypek, 84, a lifelong Chicopee resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2015 at Wingate of West Springfield, with her loving family by her side. Born on November 7, 1930, daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Biskup) Zajchowski, Catherine was a graduate of Chicopee High School, a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop & Martyr, and a member of its Rosary Society and St. Vincent de Paul Society. She retired after many years of service as office manager of the former Balakiers Clothing Store. Catherine was predeceased in 1969 by her beloved husband, Edmund “Corky” Sypek, and in 2013 by her loving daughter, Dr. Janice Sypek. She is survived by her loving son, John E. Sypek and his wife Terry of Chicopee; her cherished grandchildren, John Sypek, Heather Sypek, Ben Carlson-Sypek and Zak Carlson-Sypek; sister, Mabel Chrusciel of Wilbraham; daughter-in-law, Cathie Schweitzer of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Ann Rumburd and her brothers, Walter, Ted, Duke and Stanley Zajchowski. Funeral services for Catherine will be held Saturday at 10AM from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30AM in St. Stanislaus Basilica. Rites of Committal and burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7PM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus School Education Fund, 534 Front St., Chicopee, MA 01013.
