Chester A. Giza, 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Baystate Medical Center, with his loving family by his side. Born in Szczucin, Poland on November 25, 1939, son of the late Wojchech and Viktoria (Wurgal) Giza, he lived in Chicopee for over fifty years. Chester was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr, and worked as a meat department manager for area Big Y Supermarkets for forty-two years. An avid soccer fan and player, Chester also enjoyed hunting and playing golf, especially at Southampton CC where he was a member. Chester is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Sophie (Krason) Giza; his loving daughters, Barbara G. Galindo and her husband Thomas of Chicopee, Krystyna Galipeau and her husband Christian of Montgomery, and Maria Drobiak and her husband Teddy of Holyoke; six cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer, Natalie, Alivia, Race and Matthew Czeslaw; four cherished great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Geoffroy, Nathan and Emma; sister, Emilia Osuch of Poland; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his six brothers. Funeral services for Chester will be held Tuesday at 9AM from the Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Stanislaus Basilica. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7PM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Basilica, 566 Front St., Chicopee, MA 01013.
