Frank V. Olbrych, 96, passed away peacefully on Monday April 20, 2020 at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. Born September 26, 1923, son of the late Vincent and Wanda (Rozek) Olbrych. He was educated in Chicopee schools and was a communicant of the Basilica of Saint Stanislaus, Bishop & Martyr. Frank served in the Civil Conservation Corps in East Hartland, CT. A WW II US Army veteran, Frank served in the 3rd Army, 299 Ordnance Maintenance Company, seeing service in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland & Central Europe. He was awarded the European Theatre of Operations Ribbon, Five Campaign Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal & Letter of Gratitude for Services from the French Government. After discharge from military service, Frank was employed at American Bosch as a machine operator – inspector. He then spent thirty years as a commercial sewing machine mechanic at Chicopee Undergarment Corporation. Frank was a member of V.F.W. Post 625, the Polish Home and the Pastime Club. His favorite hobbies included watching sports especially the Bruins, and rooting for the Chicago White Sox, reading, fishing, and gardening. Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Flora (Fortini) Olbrych, and is survived by his loving son Francis V. Olbrych and wife Deborah of West Caln, PA and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Albert and Stanley Olbrych and his sisters Louise Lewicki and Esther Skiba. The family would like to thank the staff of the Soldiers’ Home, in particular the staff on 3- East for the care, compassion and friendship they provided while he was a resident. Funeral services and burial in MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private.
