Fred J. Fortuna, 83, a lifelong Chicopee resident, passed peacefully into eternal life at home on Sunday, June 4, 2017, with his loving family at his side. Born February 13, 1934, son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Stec) Fortuna, he was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop & Martyr. A graduate of Chicopee High School, Fred played football, baseball and softball for his alma mater. Fred was a US Army veteran, serving his country as a radio operator in the Artillery Corps. He retired after thirty-one years as a US Postal Carrier, and then worked ten years for the City of Chicopee waste water treatment plant. He loved a good card game with his buddies at Post 452, and enjoyed being on many bowling teams and out on the golf course with friends. Fred is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-seven years, Paula J. (Rogalski) Fortuna; his cherished daughter, the love of his life, Melinda J. Wrozek and husband, Krzysztof, of Chicopee; and extended family members. A funeral home service for Fred will be held Wednesday at 12:30PM in Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by burial with military honors in MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. Calling hours will precede the service from 11AM - 12:30PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Dept., 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
