George X. Vaselacopoulos, 87, passed away peacefully at Mercy Medical Center on Thursday, April 21, 2022. Born May 4, 1934, son of the late Nickolas and Irene (Dufault) Vaselacopoulos, he was a graduate of Chicopee High School and Springfield Technical Community College. George was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, and proprietor of the Sportsman Barber Shop in Chicopee Falls for over fifty years. He served his community as a lifelong member of the Tigers A.C.; Elks Lodge 1849; Knights of Columbus, Council 69; Moose Club Family Center; and American Legion Post 452. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). George is survived by his beloved wife of over sixty-five years, Patricia (Roberts) Vaselacopoulos; loving daughter, Joanne Guiel; treasured grandsons, Matthew G. Vaselacopoulos and Michael Guiel; caring sister, Theresa Vaselacopoulos; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 2019 by his son, George G. “Skipper” Vaselacopoulos, in 2006 by his grandson, Steven A. Vaselacopoulos, and by his brother, Gerald Vaselacopoulos. George’s family would like to thank his VA nurse, Dawn Hammett, for her loving care and dedication. A funeral home service will be held Thursday at 11AM in Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by burial with Military Honors in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 9-11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens’ Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
