Helen Barbara (Pula) Niedbalski, 92, died peacefully Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at Mount St. Vincent nursing center in Holyoke, with her two sons by her side. Born in Chicopee on Sept. 13, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Justyna (Deren) Pula. Helen attended St. Stanislaus School and graduated from Chicopee High School in 1944. She was a lifelong communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop & Martyr. Helen worked for several years at the former Chicopee Manufacturing Co., and later in life worked at the former Mercury Plastics Co. in Chicopee, from where she retired in 1990. She enjoyed baseball, miniature golf and participating in church activities. Helen married Matthew R. Niedbalski on June 6, 1953, and shared 55 years with him until his death in 2008. She was predeceased by 10 sisters and brothers – Caroline, Louise, Mary, Emily, Stella, Josephine, John, Stanley, Stephen and Edward. Helen is survived by her loving sons, Ralph M. Nebalski and wife Joanne of Chelmsford, and James S. Niedbalski and partner Caroline Scully of Adams; two grandchildren, Lynn Bulger and husband Josh of Groton, and Craig Nebalski of Dover, N.H.; and cherished great-grandson, Emerson Bulger. Funeral services for Helen will be held Saturday from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11AM in St. Stanislaus Basilica. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are Saturday from 9-10:30AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ministry of Care of St. Stanislaus Basilica, 566 Front St., Chicopee, MA 01013.
