Helena (Plachta) Nowak, 70, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, with her loving family at her side. Born in Germany on June 28, 1948, daughter of the late Jozef and Stefania (Barnas) Plachta, she emigrated to America with her family in 1951. A communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop & Martyr, and a graduate of Holy Name High School, Helena was co-owner, along with her husband Mitchell, of Chicopee Floor Covering. She was a loving, dedicated Babcia to her ten grandchildren, a priority of most importance to her. Helena is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-two years, Mitchell Nowak; four loving daughters, Anna B. Ostrowska and husband Adam Ostrowski of New Haven, CT, Dorothy M. Pinkas and husband Jan of Belmont, Joanne M. Cebula of West Springfield, and Diane S. Lukomski and husband Robert of Chicopee; cherished grandchildren, Matthew and Isabella Ostrowski, Stephanie, George and Samantha Pinkas, Nicholas, Adrianna and Veronica Cebula, and Gabriela and Jakub Lukomski; and brother, John Plachta of Chicopee. Funeral services for Helena will be held Friday from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in St. Stanislaus Basilica. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 9-10:45AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pancan.org.
