John C. Wilk, 91, formerly of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at DCH Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Born in Lowell, MA on July 30, 1921, he was the son of the late Jan and Mary (Nawrocki) Wilk. John was raised and schooled in Lowell, Massachusetts before moving to Chicopee after World War II. A US Navy veteran of World War II, he trained at the Farragut, Idaho Naval Training Camp and then assigned to Port Hueneme Navy Base. John worked for many years for the US Postal Service in Springfield, MA. He was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr and a member of the Chicopee Golden Agers. John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Cecile Ann (Boucher) Wilk on February 1, 2001. John is survived by his loving son, Michael J. Wilk, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; his cherished granddaughter, Mandy Wilk, of Tuscaloosa; a sister, Jane Lynch and her husband George, of Somerville, MA; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Sophie McHale who passed in 1989. Funeral services for John will be held Monday, December 3, 2012 from the Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Stanislaus Basilica, 566 Front St., Chicopee. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery St., Chicopee. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday morning from 9:00 - 10:30 AM.
