Maria (Jappel) Widelo-Taylor, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at home, with her loving family by her side. Born November 19, 1933 in Leipzig, Germany, daughter of the late Franz and Gertrude Jappel, she lived in Chicopee for the past eighteen years. Maria worked at both Western Mass Hospital and Northampton Nursing Home. She was a communicant of St. Anne Church and loved traveling, going to the ocean and listening and dancing to German music. Maria was predeceased by her husbands, Thomas Widelo and Earl Taylor, and is survived by her beloved children, Jane Harper and her husband Phillip, of Ware, Maria Del Hagen and her husband Gerry, of Easthampton, Thomas Widelo, of Chicopee, Susan Jarrett and her husband David, of Chesterfield and Christine Widelo, of Chicopee; special grandaughter, Katie, along with her other loving grandchildren, Jason, Michelle, Crystal, John and Michael; and great grandchildren. Calling hours for Maria will be held Friday from 6-8PM at Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee. On Saturday, family and friends may meet at St. Anne Church, 30 College St., Chicopee, for a Mass of Christian Burial for Maria at 10AM, followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Baystate VNA and Hospice, 280 Chestnut St., 6th Floor, Springfield, MA 01104.
