Max F. Rutkowski, 88, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, with his loving family at his side. Born May 27, 1932, son of the late Chester and Mary (Wozniak) Rutkowski, he was a lifelong Chicopee resident. A US Army veteran, Max served in the 3rd Battalion 15th Infantry Regiment, earning the nickname “Eagle Eye”, a recognition of his marksmanship skills. “Big Max” retired as a Lieutenant at Hampden County Jail with over twenty years of service, and previously had worked at Smith & Wesson Mfg. and Uniroyal. He was very proud of his Polish heritage and was also a proud supporter of the Chicopee Police and Fire Departments. Max was a member of the Chicopee Tigers A.C. and VFW Post 452. He will be remembered as a loving family man and outgoing jokester. Max leaves behind his beloved wife of sixty-six years, Jane C. (Stefanik) Rutkowski; loving children, Michael S. Rutkowski and wife Holly of Holland, Donna Rutkowski and partner Jody LaPierre of Chicopee, and Lynn C. Chicoine of Monson; four cherished grandchildren, Rebecca Irwin, Luke Rutkowski and wife Jessica, Kyle Rutkowski and Pam, Toby Rutkowski and wife Jackie; and five treasured great- grandchildren. Committal services and burial with Military Honors in MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery will be held privately for family.
