Raymond V. Laporte, 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Willimansett Center West, with his loving wife Millie by his side. Born September 20, 1928, son of the late Ernest and Zepherine (Gendreau) Laporte, he was raised in Chicopee and graduated from Chicopee High School. After spending twenty seven years living in Providence, RI, Raymond and his family returned to Chicopee. A US Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he served with the 515th Air Squadron and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Commendation Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal. Raymond was a Special Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), retiring in 1978 after twenty six years of service. He received recognition from the U.S. Treasury Department for his years of dedication and contributions to the department. Raymond is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Mildred “Millie" (Maczka) Laporte, his loving son, David Laporte of Irvine, CA; cherished grandchildren, Erica and Derrick; his sister, Theresa Dolat of Holyoke; and several nieces and nephews. Raymond’s family would like to thank dear friends Carol Tessier, Carol Sharpe, Jean Gamache and Ken Bushey for their caring and kindness. A funeral home service will be held Monday at 10 AM in Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by committal and burial with Military Honors in the chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. A calling hour will precede the service on Monday from 9-10 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
