Richard F. “Ozzie” Osinski, 84, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. Born January 24, 1937, son of the late Frank and Helen (Grabiec) Osinski, he was raised in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield. A graduate of Springfield Technical High School, Richard was an outstanding tight-end on their football team. He was part of the All Western Mass football team, and played semi-pro football for the Springfield Acorns of the Atlantic Coast Conference. He remained an avid football fan throughout his life. A US Army veteran, Richard proudly served his country as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division. He worked for Baystate Gas Co., and later was the proud owner of Driscoll’s Café in Holyoke. Richard’s faith was important to him and he was a parishioner of Holy Mother of the Rosary Church in Chicopee. He greatly enjoyed Polish dancing and attending Polish picnics. Richard is survived by his loving daughter, Lisa C. Leslie of Salisbury; cherished grandsons, Michael J. Pelkey and daughter Ruby (the light of her great-grandfather’s life) of Seabrook, NH, and Anthony M. Pelkey of Salisbury; caring brother, Edwin S. Osinski and wife Carol Ann of South Hadley; nephew Mark Osinski and wife Chris, and their sons, Jonathan and Colt, nephew Paul Osinski; and several cousins. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service with Military Honors for Richard on Monday at 11AM in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Cottage St., Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Mother of the Rosary Church, 20 Bell St., Chicopee, MA 01013.
