Gladys M. Stokowski

Gladys M. (Kowal) Stokowski, 99, of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025. Born in Chicopee on August 3, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Kot) Kowal. A lifelong resident, Gladys lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication to her family and community. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, MaryJane Tobin and her husband Jim, and Teresa Picard and her husband David, as well as her daughter-in-law Patricia McGuinness. Gladys was a devoted grandmother to Rebecca, Melissa, Nathan, Emily, Colleen, Kara and Alex and a proud great-grandmother to Max, Molly, Harper. Weston, and Pierce. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews. Gladys was predeceased by her beloved husband of 70 years, Benedict Stokowski, in 2016, and by her son, Thomas Stokowski, in 2012. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Albina Chmura (Walter), Max Kowal (Jenny), Frederick Kowal (Stella), Edward Kowal (Mary), Adelle Gladys (Michael), Stanley Kowal (Alice), Jane Pasterczyk (Michael). After 30 years of dedicated service, Gladys retired from A G Spaulding in 1988. She had a zest for life and enjoyed playing BINGO, cards, and making trips to the casino with her husband Ben. The couple shared a love of travel, often visiting family and friends and creating memories during summer trips to Misquamicut and Hampton Beach with their children and grandchildren. Their backyard was a gathering place for many joyous 4th of July celebrations. A woman of deep faith, Gladys was a devoted and active communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr. She volunteered her time making pierogi and was a proud member of the Rosary Society and the Beautiful Years Club. She held strong spiritual convictions, always keeping her holy water nearby -even offering a blessing for a rival football team. A special thank you to Jacqueline Delore for her years of caring for our mom. Funeral services for Gladys will be held on Tuesday, June 10th, from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM in St. Stanislaus Basilica. Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 9:15-10:45AM. Burial will be held privately for family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Stanislaus Basilica, Harmony House of Chicopee, or Dakin Humane Society
