Mary C. Williamson

Mary C. (Gilman) Williamson, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the age of 97, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Milton on September 1, 1925, daughter of the late Clifton and Ethel Gilman, she was raised in Abington and West Springfield, and is a graduate of Bay Path Business School. She worked as a secretary at Grace Baptist Church and Perkins Business Co. in Springfield, and F.K. Williams Co. in Agawam. Mary loved Jesus with all her heart, mind, and strength, and she loved her neighbor as herself. She embodied Jesus’ humility and servant’s heart which was plain for all to see through her life of service. Mary had a loving, kind, and gentle spirit toward everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her, and especially loved children. She faithfully served in various ministries, such as Sunday School, Pioneer Girls, AWANA, Vacation Bible School, and community activities such as Cub Scouts and the PTA. To know Mary was to know unconditional, heartfelt love. She loved to travel with her family on vacation in an RV. She visited most of the continental United States and the Maritime provinces, and learning as much as she could about each place she visited. When Mary wasn’t serving others or traveling, she could always be found reading-a book a day, some days! Most of all, she loved her family, being a mom, and a Grandma Mary. Her grandkids lovingly renamed her Gramary. Mary met her husband at Grace Baptist Church where he was working while attending Springfield College. They married September 13, 1948, and raised six children. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Philip J. Williamson, sisters Florine Rae and Joan Bowlen, and brother, R. John Gilman. Mary will be greatly missed by her loving children, Diane Roberts, David Williamson, Peter (Denice) Williamson, Gail (Stan) Piotrowski, Ben (Donna) Williamson, and Wendy Williamson; cherished grandchildren, Heidi (Ryan) Flemons, Sam (Mariel) Piotrowski, Ben (Emma) Piotrowski, Alexander (Janice) Williamson, Victoria Williamson, Alyssa (Josh) Sutowski, and Deanne Williamson; treasured great-grandchildren, Nora, Will, and Mari Piotrowski; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held Saturday from 1-3PM at Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, culminating with a service at 3PM. Burial will be Monday, October 31st at 9AM in MA Veterans ‘ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northfield Bible Conference, 96 Wanamaker Rd., Northfield, MA 01360, or to Word of Life, PO Box 60, Schroon Lake, NY 12870.
