Paul Dzubek

Paul Dzubek, 77, passed from this life on Friday, September 19, 2025, after a 7-year battle with cancer with his loving wife by his side. Born in Springfield on September 16, 1948 to John and Bertha Dzubek, he grew up in West Springfield and graduated from West Springfield High School in 1966. Paul played on both the ice hockey and golf teams in high school and continued to enjoy both throughout his life. Paul went on to study Aeronautical Engineering at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, earning an Associate's Degree. He then transferred to UMass Amherst and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. In between going to school, he attended Woodstock in the summer of 1969 and loved telling stories about that wild experience. After graduating Paul decided to do a little traveling. He spent a few months in Hawaii visiting a friend and almost stayed, but decided to head back to Western Mass. He later traveled across the country with his friend Rudy and developed a love for the West Coast, particularly South Lake Tahoe. He was hired at an engineering firm while out there visiting and came back to Western Mass to get his belongings, which started an over 25-year span of living in California. He developed many friendships there that he continued with to this day. He eventually ended up in Lodi, CA working with a friend he had made in Tahoe, Cecil Dillon, who had started his own engineering firm. In 1982 Paul met his future wife Theresa Wallior through a blind date set up by her friend Lori who bartended at the old Croce's Italian Restaurant. Soon after, Paul decided to move on and was hired by an engineering firm in Monterey, CA. When that firm was sold, he moved on to Creegan and D'Angelo Engineering with an office on Cannery Row in Monterey. He loved working and living on Monterey Bay, especially playing all the fantastic golf courses like Pebble Beach and Spanish Bay to name a few. In 1990 Paul decided to start his own engineering firm in Salinas, CA where he enjoyed great success because of his honesty and dedicated work ethic. It was right at this time that he took the trip of a lifetime to Scotland with his friend Greg Bosler. They played St. Andrew's and Carnoustie and other courses, and Paul was in seventh heaven, including tasting as many scotch varieties as he could. On October 14, 1995, Paul and Theresa finally tied the knot in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Carmel Mission Basilica in Carmel, CA, to the delight of Theresa's father. In 1998 Paul and Theresa decided to return to Paul's home state of Massachusetts to be closer to his parents. He was hired as town engineer in Ludlow where he eventually became Director of Public Works. Paul was responsible for many special projects in town and was very proud of his accomplishments. In 2014 he retired from the town and concentrated on playing golf, hunting, and fishing. Paul and his wife loved to travel and managed to take a few trips before his illness prevented them from doing so. He was predeceased by his father John in 2008, his mother Bertha in 2018, and his brother Gary in 1994. Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Theresa (Wallior). He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Nancy Wallior and Julie Wallior, and brothers-in-law, John Wallior (Yolanda) and Jeff Wallior (Patty), all of CA. He also leaves his cousins, John Langone of Newton, MA and Marilyn Provost of Chicopee. In addition, he is also survived by several nieces and nephews in California and many friends around the country. Calling hours for Paul will be held Thursday, September 25th, beginning at 10AM, culminating with a prayer service at 11AM, in Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee.
